Charles and Gloria Hailey are native Tennesseeans and have
been married for almost 40 years. They have two children,
Heather and Jonathan. Heather has a young son, Scott
Anthony, who is Charles and Gloria’s only grandchild. Charles
worked for FedEx for 19 years and retired in 2005. Now he is
Deputy Town Clerk for the Town of Tunica. Gloria is a former
kindergarten teacher and was a stay-at-home mom who
homeschooled Heather and Jonathan for 12 years. She has
taught private piano lessons for several years (if you hear the
sounds of students in the afternoons in the parlor, you will know
she is teaching—please feel free to interrupt if you need
something.) She also works part time for The Tunica Times
newspaper. They stayed in their first bed and breakfast in
Vermont while traveling on their 25th anniversary and have
stayed in many more since then. They had talked for several
years about restoring an old home and making it in to a bed and
breakfast. Heather found this house right after she moved to
Tunica. After several months of planning and preparation,
about a year and a half was spent in renovation and
restoration.
They live on the west side of the downstairs—feel free to knock
any time you have a need. They hope to make your visit to The
Columns a lasting memory for you and that you will come back to
visit many more times in the future.
We often hear “I've always wanted to have a bed and breakfast”. If you are interested in what it
takes to be an innkeeper, our suggestion is this: take a few days off work and offer to assist an
innkeeper at no charge. You will learn the ins and outs for free; the innkeeper gets a free set
of additional hands! Win, win!
